A timeout is not failure.
Do not blindly retry.

Repeated actions after ambiguous outcomes can amplify incidents and cloud bills. Explore duplicate-admission checks, stale-generation fencing and explicit unknown states before making a second decision.

No proprietary source. No claimed customer savings. No production credentials needed.

01 / THE BUSINESS CASE

An agent times out. Your system retries. Nobody knows whether the first external action succeeded.

Repeated tool calls, stale workers and uncertain external effects create difficult reconciliation work. A workflow engine may already provide some protections.

THE QUESTION

Where can an additional admission-and-evidence boundary improve reliability beyond the infrastructure already in place?

THE MEASUREMENT

Duplicate admission decisions, stale-epoch rejections, unresolved outcomes, operational incident cost and incremental overhead against the buyer's own workflow engine.

THE DECISION

Keep the current stack if the added control produces no defensible incremental value.

02 / WHERE THE COST OR RISK APPEARS

Three symptoms your engineering team will recognise.

These are candidate industrial use cases—not invented customer deployments. Each can be scoped to a measurable, paid trial.

OPERATING SYMPTOM / 01

A tool call times out after an external action

The call returned no success receipt, but re-execution may repeat a real-world effect.

What to test: Mark the outcome UNKNOWN and require a trusted reconciliation signal before retry.

OPERATING SYMPTOM / 02

A stale worker resumes after takeover

The older worker still believes it owns a job that a newer generation has already admitted.

What to test: Reject stale generation decisions and expose the reason in the audit trace.

OPERATING SYMPTOM / 03

Incident triage becomes a full-time job

A swarm of retries creates conflicting state and unclear ownership across services.

What to test: Compare evidence quality and time-to-reconcile with existing Temporal, Restate or native controls.

Competitive baseline required. No savings claim is valid until the result is measured against the best working solution already available to the buyer.
03 / PUBLIC INTERACTIVE DEMO

Run it. Change it. Check the result.

This page runs a small, synthetic reference model inside your browser. The proof is reproducible, but it is not a benchmark of the proprietary production component.

04 / EVIDENCE, NOT SLOGANS

What is supported—and what is not.

These numbers come from bounded historical research or the public synthetic model. None is represented as a customer achievement.

31/31Scoped local regression tests in earlier research
36k–44kHistoric synthetic jobs/s only to a local cursor
msDurable DONE p99 in historical tests; no E2E nanosecond claim
Scope boundary: The public state machine does not prove external exactly-once execution, remote delivery, physical power-loss durability or proprietary-engine throughput.
What must a buyer-funded test still establish?

Start with a real, approved retry or recovery workflow. Replay benign failures against an independent state oracle and price measured reductions in triage and recovery work.

Technical acceptance means correctness, reproducible evidence, measurable overhead and an economically credible comparison against an already optimised alternative. Where those checks do not support a difference, the pilot should end without a product licence.

Measurement boundary: Historical scoped 31/31 local regressions and ~36,000–44,000 jobs/s to a local cursor. Durable-DONE p99 was measured in milliseconds; no distributed exactly-once claim. Independent Linux 6.18.57 reference suite: 120/120 tests (steady, burst, fault, recovery; 30 each), not a proprietary-engine benchmark.

Evidence quality and eight industrial gates (G0–G7)

Scope-qualified, not industrially certified. Incremental benefit must be judged against the best correct optimized baseline using false blocks, overhead, failure cases, p99 and cost per completed work unit.

G0 · EvidenceHash-linked independent reference logs retained privately; historical evidence is bounded.
G1 · CorrectnessHistorical scoped tests plus 120/120 independent reference fixtures; native engine has a separate test oracle.
G2 · Incremental valueNot demonstrated against an optimized, same-workload production competitor.
G3 · Tail and scaleExisting local timings are scoped; no wire-to-wire or production p99/p99.9 SLA.
G4 · Fault / recoverySynthetic adverse and recovery fixtures only; native chaos testing remains separate.
G5 · Competitive baselineOptimized Temporal/Restate workflow, identical retries, failure injection and external side-effect oracle.
G6 · Security / IPNo private code, thresholds, credentials, customer traces or raw private logs in the public view.
G7 · Economic acceptanceNo verified customer savings. An isolated substitute is not a client workload.

Original raw traces remain private; published hashes alone cannot independently validate unseen logs.

Evidence, scope and price — before a call

What the system does — and does not

Inspect operation identity, generation and known/uncertain outcomes before retries or external effects; explicitly hold uncertain decisions, reject stale generations and preserve a conservative fallback. An add-on to, not replacement for, an orchestrator.

Industrial baseline: Optimized Temporal/Restate recovery and retry workflow with paired ambiguous ACKs, restarts, external-effect oracle, durable completion and total cost.

Scoped historical results: 31/31 historical local regressions; 36k–44k synthetic jobs/s to a local cursor, not durable end-to-end; durable DONE p99 was in milliseconds. No distributed exactly-once proof.

Customer production net benefit, compliance and superior performance against a fully optimized incumbent remain to be established.

Reproducible 720-check reference archive

720/720 independent, simplified synthetic reference-model checks: six modules, four scenarios, thirty repetitions each. These are not proprietary engine benchmarks or verified savings. Reference ns figures are not product latency.

€3,800 · Fixed diagnostic perimeter

Fixed-scope diagnostic: €3,800. One approved workflow/retry trace and isolated non-production environment, up to 30 paired repetitions per applicable failure scenario. Competitor and acceptance metrics agreed in writing; unsupported tests explicitly marked NOT TESTED.

Included: one 45-minute kickoff, one 45-minute results call, one email clarification thread within five business days, an 8–12-page measured evidence dossier, aggregate results, SHA-256 manifest and GO / NO-GO / INCONCLUSIVE recommendation.

Payment: 50% at accepted signature and 50% upon delivery; applicable taxes per quote. Target ten business days after complete accepted inputs. Extra meetings, re-tests, datasets, environments and external costs require separate signed change orders.

Excluded: production operations or code edits, generic architectural consultancy, on-call, certification, guaranteed savings, engine source licence and ongoing support. Customer data remain private; owner retains algorithms and source. A documented NO-GO fulfills the diagnostic deliverable. The terms are public proposals, not binding before a signed quote and any required data/privacy terms.

INCREMENTAL CONTROL · MEASURABLE VALUE

Add a guarded execution boundary without rewriting business logic where integration permits.

Control boundary

Inspect operation identity, generation and outcome evidence before retry or external effect. The proposed proxy or sidecar remains complementary to an existing orchestrator; integration is protocol-specific.

Why it adds value

Avoided duplicate external effects and reconciliation time create value only after the added overhead, false blocks and deployment cost are measured.

What is proven

Open the interactive synthetic Proof Lab, reproduce the inputs, inspect SHA-256 receipts and test tampering. The native engine and the commercial case have a separate qualification boundary.

Measurement method, baselines and limitations

The Proof Lab tests synthetic stale and uncertain outcomes. A live Temporal/Restate comparison must inject ambiguous acknowledgments, retries and restarts, then count correct decisions and unhandled outcomes.
